5 to Thrive Challenge-Week 2

Well....if I only could use one word to describe how my first week of this challenge went, I would say I failed. Not an excuse, but it just ended up being one of those weeks where all of a sudden all the plates your juggling go flying in all the wrong directions...anyone experience this?

Exercising daily, did not happen once this week unfortunately.  I did at least set the goal that my fit bit needed to hit at least 5,000 steps each day and I typically came in at 4,000 and change.  I did make myself get up at work more and walk around the classroom as needed so I did see that change this week.

Daily Gratitude, happened one time, on Monday morning.  Sadly, I really did have a lot to be grateful for this week but I just never got around during the day to sit down and write it out.  As writing this I do have an idea that maybe I could use my 10 minute morning break at work to type my 3 grateful things into my phone instead of surfing through Facebook.

Giving up sweets, I honestly feel that I did “okay” on this part of the challenge.  Except for two days at work with a little slip up of a Hershey kiss and a couple donut holes one morning I did stay away from sweets.  I also kept my carb intake down to once a day, excluding Friday.

Drinking half my bodyweight in water, I honestly did not keep a good track of this however, I typically refill my big “Yeti” cup three times throughout the day.  The cup holds 30 oz of fluids, multiply that by 3 and we get 90 oz which is definitely more than half of my body weight. So without knowing for sure, I think I probably did this 5 of the 7 days.

Getting up an hour earlier each day.  Mike has been a large help of seeing that I do this mainly because his alarm goes off at 5 and he is supposed to get up.  However, this week he/we hit snooze a few times and we did not get up at 5. Even though I may not have gotten up an hour earlier every day, I did not sleep or stay in bed until the very last minute either.  I am accepting that as progress towards my goal and saying that I did “okay” with that part of the challenge.

After thinking and reflecting on each part of the challenge, I think I was too harsh on myself when I started writing this.  I did not fail at the challenge this week, I just did “okay” which I believe is alright. Okay means that I worked on each part of the challenge at least once this past week, that means I put the effort in and I am making progress.  Next week is about making sure I keep that motivation going on each part of the challenges. That means pushing myself to get up and walk more at work, as well as finding at least one or two nights to get on the treadmill. It also means trying to utilize my morning break for daily gratitude and staying away from complimentary sweets at work.  Lastly, it means keeping better track of my water intake on a daily basis and pushing myself to get out of bed after the first alarm. Tune in next week to see how I do.
